After the release of Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein, the genre of science fiction has flourished thoroughly as the y ears in the entertainment industry goes by. But probably one of the movies in this genre that will probably ring a bell in anybody’s ears is the film Cloud Atlas (2012). Directed by the Wachowskis (Lana and Lilly) and Tom Twyker and was based from the novel Cloud Atlas by David Mitchell. A collection of stories that took place in multiple places and periods in time.

Cloud Atlas may be a movie thay isn’t very understandable at the first time you watch it but rewatching and trying to understand the plot will totally be worth it. Here’s a quick summary, Cloud Atlas jumps between 6 different stories that took place in different periods and places in time spanning hundreds of years. Each story is interconnected, featuring reincarnations, role reversal, and portrayals that every eventuality in the present storyline can heavily influence and affect the next.

The reason I was fond of this movie is because of its intriguingly chronological plot. Its portrayal that everything is connected. Like the story of a journalist in 1973 that connected as far as 500 years into the future when the world is in the brink of collapse.

Another reason is its ability to keep the thrill and excitement on point. It may be a 3 hour movie but once you get hooked to it, there’s no going back. It will draw you to its story so deeply that you won’t even notice the time. The buildup of each story to its resolution will just keep your facr stuck on the screen.

As a lover of science fiction and as a fan of chronological entanglements, this movie is just fascinating to say the least. I think it won’t be an exaggeration to say that it’ll make you feel like you’re in the clouds.
